So I have been really excited to share this "session" as it was a session of a lifetime. To set the stage, let me take you back a bit. The Friday before Thanksgiving, I received a text message from an old friend (and by old, I mean we were born 2 days apart, same hospital and all) asking me if I would be able to photograph a coming home ceremony for her husband's army unit as they were scheduled to be home that next morning. This was a rare weekend in which my husband was gone for the weekend (deer hunting) and my daughter was with her grandmother and I had the place to myself. I was very touched to be asked to do this for a couple of reasons 1) this friend is a photographer (A.T. Photography in Lincoln) as well, so being called upon by another fellow photographer is always a compliment and 2) this was a very special day for many families. My weekend plans were up in the air, but as soon as I got word that I would have that morning free, I committed to taking the photos.
What I found funny (or maybe ridiculous in the end) is that on that particular Friday night, I was home completely alone. I HATE staying home alone. For anyone that has a family, knows that peace and quite is very hard to come by and very cherished. The peace and quiet was wonderful for about an hour, then I was bored, lonely, and a bit "scared" (again, I hate staying home alone). That next morning, as I was standing in a crowd full of men and women that have been doing this same thing, night after night for the better part of a year. Many of these spouses had children, whom they had to care for every night, had to get ready every morning. Many of these spouses were "it" when it came to caring for children illnesses, planning birthday parties, Christmas shopping, mowing, housework, etc. While I was standing there, watching the almost unbearable anticipation on their faces, I finally realized how ridiculous I was for dreading a night alone. My emotions kicked into overload and watching the reactions as the plane landed made it impossible to not feel overwhelmed. I felt overwhelmed by feelings of excitement, by feelings of happiness, but most of all, by feelings of appreciation for the sacrifices that these families and their spouses and loved ones make each year in order for people like myself to enjoy "The Good Life".
As a photographer, I get to be involved in so many wonderful things. Taking photos of babies during there first weeks of life are breathtaking. Capturing that look of surprise on an expecting couples' faces when they open a box of pink or blue balloons is unforgettable. Watching the excitement on a grooms face the first time they see their beautiful bride is beautiful. This was something different. This was an entire year of so many emotions coming out in a few single hours. I witnessed smiles so big, "giddiness" to the point that I thought I would actually see hearts leap from chests...I witnessed tears of joy and family members that couldn't be more proud. This was a day that was truly indescribable.
Once the soldiers exited the plane, it was chaos. People running in all directions, hugs and tears and absolute joy. Children literally hung from their soldiers like monkeys. Families hugged together. To these family, this was that day they have been waiting for all year..something I'm sure many of them will have to do again. To me, it was a complete enlightenment of what it means to be a family of a soldier.
I will never forget to pray for these soldiers and their families each night before I go to bed and I will be sure to think of them often as the holidays come upon us. Thank you....Thank you men and women of the military for sacrificing for us...and Thank You to the families that do the same.
GOD BLESS AMERICA! Enjoy!
Just waiting.....
Watching...
The plane is landing! (this is where the giddiness come in)

Why I love doing this...
There are quite a few reasons why I have fallen in love with doing photography. One of the reasons are just below...Not only have I gotten to meet alot of wonderful people, I have gotten the opportunity to meet up with old friends that I may have lost touch with!
This is Jacob and Sara. They have been dating for a year and a half (no, these aren't engagement pics, but should be) :):)...I met Jacob YEARS ago...he moved into a house a couple of miles from mine when we were in elementary school. So I guess you could say we grew up together. Sara, on the other hand, I didn't meet until I was 16. It was my first year at York High School and we had our first words at the water fountain near the math room. We have been friends ever since. I spent a ton of time at Sara's house in high school, but sadly, we drifted apart after high school. This is the first time I had seen Sara in years and I felt like we hadn't skipped a beat. I love you guys...Hope to get your business when you DO need engagment pictures :)
I also did family pictures for Sarah, her mother, and 3 siblings. It has been a LONG time since I have seen everyone. I think the youngest was half of his size the last time I saw him! It was great to see how much they have all grown up!

Oh good, you found me (Pt 2)
Now where was I? Oh yes....
This was another session I had while out visiting my bestie in Holdrege. Adorable family! Little man is just over 1 and this beautiful girl was one proud "big sister"!
This little guy was turning 3 in October. I remember in an email from his mom, she said "You will probably just have to follow him around"...I laughed as I knew he was a typical 3 year old! He actually did great for three...we even got pics of him smiling (AT THE CAMERA)! His fun personality definitely shines in his photos. Happy LATE birthday! Hope you enjoyed your miniature golf!
This family took part in a fall mini-session. Although I did not know them prior to this, we discovered we have quite a few "mutual friends" (yes, thanks to Facebook). Mom's smile could light up a room and this family's personality was so fun! The way they interact (okay, maybe pick on, a little) with their kids reminded me so much of my family. Thanks for choosing me, I enjoyed meeting you all!
This was another family that I didn't know prior to our session, but Tammie owns the gym that my sister in law teaches at here in Lincoln (Farrel's Extreme Bodyshaping). They all looked perfect and the weather was just as great on this late October Sunday. I am in LOVE with the bottom picture of the children. It was difficult for them to do a "serious" picture, but I think it turned out great!! Such a good looking group of people :)
Oh good, you found me!
Sorry for such confusion...I have just found it much easier to blog on this website instead...it gives me many more options! So, let's get started!
I've been talking about updating my blog for weeks. I have a lot to blog about and the longer I have waited, the worse (or better?!??!) it's gotten (duh...right?). October was the craziest month I've had this year. Aside from the fall photos that I was booked up with, we took on the project of finishing our basement, and of course emotionally preparing for our daughter's second birthday as well as the oh so fun Halloween fun! Although my favorite month has come to a close, I can say that I'm pretty excited for what November has in store. It doesn't seem like our schedule will slow down much, but with some major projects out of the way, I think we can enjoy it all a little more. Hoping that the next week will bring an end to another successful harvest for my dad and grandpa, a successful deer season for my brothers and husband, and a great month of giving thanks! I am also hoping to keep this updated throughout the month before the rush of the holiday falls upon me, but I won't hold my breath (I wouldn't if I were you either). This month I am thankful for all my loved ones, health, happiness, and PHOTOGRAPHY! Hope you enjoy!
This was my first "Gender Reveal" session....it was really something. Thanks to some quick thinking from this expecting mother's good friend, I was connected with this excited couple and was given the opportunity to set this up for them within a couple of days. I did not know this couple prior to this session. After they went in for their ultrasound, "mom" drove to my house with the sealed "gender" in an envelope and handed it over to me, the "complete stranger". For some reason, I was so excited to see what they were having that I think I had it torn open before she backed out of my driveway....It's funny how we can so easily get interested in other peoples' "business", but this was a time that was justified :). After my kiddos left for the day, I took my box over to the local Russ' Market and had them fill it with helium balloons (blue of course, but by now I assume you know that). What do you know, it started raining on my way over to Pioneer's Park. Luckily, I found a covered area and gave "mom" the cue that we were ready. "Dad" had no idea what was in store (better yet, it was his birthday!). The rest is history! Watching this surprise through my lens was an awesome experience. Congrats and well wishes for the rest of your journey!!

My dear friend Ann wanted to do family pictures and include her husband's parents as well. Her husband is an only child, making Ann's two boys the only grandkids so I thought it was the perfect setup!! Grandpa and Grandma were a very sweet couple and clearly very proud of their family! I can only imagine how spoiled these two grandkids are :). I have known Ann for a few years as we previously worked together. Although I spent little time with her husband and even less time with her children, I am always excited to see them. They are wonderful people that are always interested in sharing stories/experiences with others! The boys were quiet, but they weren't fooling me.... (: AND I have to give props to Ann's husband for some great ideas he came up with during the shoot. Thanks Tellinghuisen family...I really enjoyed our session!

This is my best friend April and her family. So many different personalities in this group! My husband, daughter and I took a little road trip out to Holdrege one Saturday morning to do this photo shoot bright and early. While a couple of the kids were total hams for the camera, the other 2 weren't loving picture day. But in the end, we had plenty of shots to choose from! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make this a long visit, but anytime I get to spend with April and her family is WONDERFUL!
